OpenAI launches Dots that keep working without user prompts, plus other DevDay updates

Picture: MediaNama

At DevDay 2026, OpenAI introduced dots: persistent AI agents powered by GPT-6 Astra. These agents operate independently in the cloud and continue tasks without user prompts. Dots are being released in ChatGPT for Pro and Business Premium users in eligible markets. Enterprise, Edu and Healthcare workspaces can access a beta version if enabled by an administrator, as it is off by default. The first dot is included at no additional cost. A dot can monitor customer feedback, implement and test minor fixes, and submit pull requests with video documentation. It can update launch materials when product scope changes, rerun scientific analyses as new data becomes available, and flag items for review. In sales, it can revise enterprise proposals, update test plans, and build proof-of-concept integrations.
