Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming more capable of solving complex mathematical problems, but researchers still need ways to check its answers and understand how it reaches them. To help mathematicians work with these tools, OpenAI, Anthropic and the Simons Foundation have announced a combined commitment of USD 15 million (around Rs 142 crore). The initiative will support researchers as they explore how AI can be used in mathematics. The funding will help organise workshops, conferences and other programmes where mathematicians can learn about AI tools, assess their results and discuss how the technology should be used in research.HELPING MATHEMATICIANS WORK WITH AIThe initiative comes as AI makes progress in solving difficult mathematical problems.
