DeepSeek secures $15 billion in financing to intensify AI rivalry with OpenAI and Anthropic

The Chinese artificial intelligence startup DeepSeek has successfully secured around 100 billion yuan (approximately $15 billion) in its recent funding initiative, as reported by Bloomberg News. This substantial capital infusion is intended to bolster its competitive stance against American AI pioneers, OpenAI and Anthropic. Hailing from Hangzhou, the company significantly raised its fundraising ambitions during negotiations with potential investors, initially aiming for 50 billion yuan before adjusting its target to 80 billion yuan and ultimately achieving its goal of approximately 100 billion yuan, according to sources familiar with the funding, as cited by Bloomberg. Among the principal investors in this round were Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd. (CATL), a notable battery manufacturer, and Tencent Holdings, recognized for its popular WeChat platform.
