The Simons Foundation has announced a $15 million funding and resource initiative in partnership with OpenAI and Anthropic to help mathematicians assess artificial intelligence-assisted research, develop shared standards for using AI, and understand the implications of the technology for mathematical discovery. The initiative will be managed by the Simons Foundation, which will award funding through an open call for proposals and other mechanisms. The grants will support workshops and collaborative programmes where researchers can examine AI-assisted results, learn to use emerging tools, and discuss how the technology should be evaluated and adopted in mathematics. The combined commitment includes funding as well as other resources.
