The news: Peter Thiel’s Founders Fund and the OpenAI Startup Fund have co-led a USD45 million ($64 million) Series A raise for brain cancer implant startup Coherence Neuro, Australian co-founder Elise Jenkins said. The context: Jenkins co-founded the company in 2022 with Ben Woodington, a former medical device engineer she met while both were doing PhDs at Cambridge University. It is developing brain implants that use electrical signals to track and treat cancer in real time and has begun testing its devices in human trials. It said the money would fund its first chronic human trial in glioblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer. Woodington told the AFR the new funding would take the company to its next milestone, a larger trial in Melbourne.
