OpenAI Engineer Arrested Over Espionage Attempt

Cyber Security Intelligence

The FBI has announced the arrest of OpenAI engineer Abdulrahman Alfozan for allegedly bugging an executive conference room at the company’s San Francisco premises. According to federal investigators, the suspect used an AI productivity tool and a chatbot to research sensitive locations within OpenAI and seek guidance on secretly concealing audio recording equipment. Prosecutors noted that the recording device had been wrapped in toilet paper and plugged into the rear of a television set inside the meeting room. Although his primary motive remains unclear, Alfozan has been formally charged with the illegal interception of oral communications, an offence carrying a maximum sentence of up to five years in prison alongside a potential fine of $250,000 (£187,000).
