After OpenAI published hundreds of AI-generated mathematical manuscripts, the Association for Human Mathematics is calling for a boycott. Many papers are so dense and oddly written that even leading experts need AI help to decipher them, if they can at all. A dispute is taking shape over whether a problem can count as solved before its proof has been independently worked through and made understandable to humans. The Association for Human Mathematics (AHM) accuses OpenAI of violating core norms of scientific research by publishing the AI proofs and is urging mathematicians to stop working with the company. Fields Medalist Terence Tao, who chairs the group, shared the statement as a guest post on his blog, while also outlining a "Math 2.0" era on Mastodon in which solving problems should no…
