OpenAI has reported that agentic artificial intelligence tools accounted for more than half of output tokens generated by its European Union enterprise and business customers by the end of September 2026, as adoption of AI agents accelerates across the region. The findings, published by OpenAI Economic Research on 14 October, show that businesses are increasingly using AI to carry out tasks from planning through to completion, rather than simply asking questions. The analysis measures activity on ChatGPT Enterprise and Business accounts, focusing on usage of Codex and ChatGPT Work. OpenAI’s report found that weekly active users of Codex and ChatGPT Work among EU small and medium-sized businesses grew more than eightfold between May and early October 2026.
