Replit is making its biggest AI provider change in years. CEO Amjad Masad confirmed that OpenAI will now become the platform's default model provider, replacing Anthropic's Claude which has powered much of Replit's Agent and Assistant experience for the past two years. The announcement marks a major win for OpenAI and a notable loss for Anthropic in the increasingly fierce battle to power AI coding tools. Replit, which serves more than 40 million users and has bet its entire business on natural-language software creation, says the move reflects where frontier coding performance now lives. For developers, the change will be felt immediately.
