A former OpenAI engineer has been charged with secretly installing a recording device in an executive conference room at the artificial intelligence company, the US Justice Department said on Tuesday, raising concerns about the security of sensitive corporate communications. Abdulrahman Alfozan, 35, a Saudi national who worked as an engineer at OpenAI from July 2025, was arrested by US federal agents, the department said in a statement. The device was discovered on September 30, plugged into a USB port at the back of a television in an executive conference room at one of OpenAI's buildings in San Francisco, according to the Justice Department. An FBI complaint said the thumb-sized device, equipped with a microphone and capable of connecting to a camera, had been concealed in toilet paper.
